Did you know that blue is the rarest color found in gardens? If you are seeking to introduce authentic blue hues to your outdoor space, our blue hosta plants are an excellent choice. These shade-loving perennials offer a range of blue shades, from deep blue hostas to soft powder blue varieties. With intense blues and even fragrant blue hostas, your garden will be transformed and sure to delight visitors.

The distinctive blue appearance of hosta leaves is due to a glaucous coating on the leaf’s surface. Often described as a leaf wax or bloom, this coating gives the leaves their characteristic blue color. Interestingly, the same type of coating can be found on fruits such as blueberries and plums. The presence of more glaucous coating makes the leaf appear even bluer, enhancing the visual appeal of these unique perennials.
